What changes are included in the Law on Grapes and Wine?
"The Government of Georgia reviewed and approved the draft law on amendments to the Law of Georgia on Grapes and Wine" - the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture reports.
"The purpose of the draft law on amendments to the Law of Georgia on Grapes and Wine" is to support the production of quality, competitive alcoholic beverages of grape origin, as well as the consideration of the requirements of the local and international markets necessary for their sale.
"The Draft Law on Amendments to the Law of Georgia on Grapes and Wine" will regulate the rules of growing vineyards, labeling products, packaging in consumer containers and accounting.
In recent years, the interest in the field of viticulture and winemaking has increased, which is reflected in the intensive planting of new vineyards.
It should be noted that in some cases, the vineyard is planted from varieties not permitted for the respective viticultural zones and subzones or from non-certified varieties. With the seedlings grown in the nursery, which subsequently leads to the problem of production/sale of grapes, as well as creates a problem in the production of wine.
The new regulation envisages the consent to grow a commercial vineyard, which will be issued by the National Agency of Wine.
Taking into account the fact that the number of planted vineyards and, accordingly, the yield of grapes has increased, according to the amendment, in order to ensure the high quality of wines and spirits of the protected place of origin, the alcoholic beverage of the designation of origin must be produced only from grapes grown in the microzone defined in the specification for the production of this wine and/or spirit drink.
The amendment also determines the fulfillment of the requirements for recording and reporting technological processes in viticulture-winemaking practices for all wine companies.
