Airport signs and symbols - what you need to know

Airport signs are designed so that anyone, regardless of language proficiency, can find their way. Here's what the most commonly used symbols mean:

1. Departures & Arrivals – these are probably the most important signs.

Departures: the nose of the plane is pointing upwards on the symbol. This is the place where registration (Check-in) and going through security control is done.

Arrivals: The nose of the plane is pointing down, which means landing. Baggage is accepted and passengers are welcomed here.

2. Security control and passports

Security Screening: Usually shows an officer's figure or a bag going through an X-ray.

Passport Control: You will often see the symbol of an officer holding a passport.

3. Baggage claim
