New IATA Initiative – Digital ID and Biometrics
IATA, together with the engineering company AtkinsRéalis, presented a report on the "Domestic and International Passenger Integration Program" (DIPIP). The project aims to revolutionize the operation of airports using digital identification and biometric technologies.
Until now, passenger flows of domestic (within the country) and international flights were strictly separated by physical barriers in airports. Under the new initiative, the use of digital ID will allow airports to unify these flows.
Passengers will no longer have to show their passports and tickets multiple times. Through biometric data (face recognition), movement in the airport will become "seamless".
Airports will be able to use terminals and gates more flexibly, which will reduce the need for new building construction.
According to the study, implementing these technologies could save both airlines and airport operators millions of dollars.
Regardless of the flows s Union, Digital ID ensures strict compliance with all border control and security requirements.
Optimizing processes and reducing paper documents will have a positive impact on the goals of sustainable development of aviation.
Nick Karin, Vice President of IATA, noted that digital identity is the key to the airport of the future, where security and passenger comfort are in perfect harmony with each other.
